School Day

We ensure our school day is structured to compliment the exciting and innovative curriculum programme we have at Ramsgate Arts Primary School.

The 38 week school year is divided into 6 terms, in line with the family of schools working within the Viking Academy trust.

School Day Timings:

The RAPS school day starts earlier than all other local schools (great for traffic!), with our 'doors open' at 8.15am and registration at 8:30am

For Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils (Year 1 and Year 2), the school day ends at 3.00pm.

Our Key Stage 2 pupils' day (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) finishes at 4.15pm Monday to Thursday, when our Arts Curriculum is taking place.

All pupils finish school at 3.00pm on Fridays.

Each day there is a 15-minute midmorning break, (except for EYFS which will have 20 minutes, which will also incorporate a healthy eating snack and milk time) and a one-hour lunch period for all pupils.

The length of the RAPS school day exceeds 'expected timings' - because we have such an exciting curriculum on offer for our children. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a weekly total of 32 hours 30 minutes teaching and children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 receive a weekly total of 37 hours 30 minutes.

Wrap-Around Care: the Extended School Day:

We cater particularly for the working parent and those looking to return to employment, as we provide both before and after school care beyond the school day. Alongside the arts curriculum activities, there are a range of before and after school activities for the children, their parents and other members of the community, with additional opportunities arising during the school holiday period.

For further information on the Ramsgate Art Primary School day, including wrap-around care, please contact the school office in the first instance.

School holidays - including INSET Days - are planned one year in advance, following Kent County Council Term Dates. Please see our annual school calendar below.
